Robert Redfield, the former director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has speculated that avian flu may be the cause of the next pandemic.

The virus has been discovered in livestock all over the US, and the World Health Organization recently reported the first bird flu-related human fatality in Mexico.

Redfield told NewsNation on Friday, "I really do think it's very likely that we will, at some point. It's not a question of if, it's more of when we will have a bird flu pandemic."

He went on to say that compared to Covid-19, the death rate from bird flu is probably substantially higher.
